Ever since its creation November 21st, 2008, the deeritor has been the number one place for creating ASCII deer for IRC¹ and currently holds a total of 662 deer, which also makes it the biggest deer database in the world.²
I first mentioned the deer phenomena, deerkins and the deeritor here on satf in the satf.se 1 year anniversary-post, and sure, it has died down a bit since then, but since halcy mentioned that “Soon, deer will be everywhere” today, I thought it would be time for a little write-up on the subject.
The origins of deer on IRC is uncertain, and researchers are widely disagreeing on the matter. According to acknowledged deer scientist and researcher Raum, the deer phenomena is “Eternal. There is no definite start or end.” and that deer “Was here before humans roamed the earth.”
Other, less credible sources claim ownership of deer saying that they were its original creator, something which is generally frowned upon and is usually dealt with through mass DDoS attacks and trolling.
Today, deer continues to be a big part of the IRC experience (especially on Rizon), and deer are usually sighted more than once every day. Sometimes they even get a bit too common, which may lead to mass shootings, breaking or cutting of deer on sight.

That’s all for now, folks! The wonder of deer will continue throughout eternity, and all we can do is sit back and enjoy the ride, and occasionally contribute to the deer community by creating a new deer design or two.
